2 cups sugar
1 cup of ½ lard and ½ butter
½ cup sweet milk
2 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup of nuts
2¾ cups flour
Lucy's Note: My grandmother always brought cookies for the holidays - packed in round decorative tins, between sheets of wax paper. When I bake Christmas cookies with my granddaughters, Haley and Vanessa, I show them their great-great-grandma Linsley's "right way" to wrap them.
Cream together butter and sugar. Add the milk and eggs and mix well. Sift together the dry ingredients, add the nuts, and mix well. Drop by spoonfuls on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 - 375 for about 10 minutes.
