Lucy's Note: Martha was firm in her resolve to use the fruit growing wild on their property. This was perhaps the kid's least favorite recipe....

Wash and pick through the fruit. Measure the berries and put in a saucepan with an equal measure of water. Bring to a boil and cook until the cherries are done. Strain the fruit and measure the juice, adding one part sugar to two parts juice, bring to a boil and simmer until juice is cooked down. Add the cherries back to the liquid, bring back to a boil, fill canning jars, and seal.
