Vanilla Almond Cake (Lincoln's favorite)

3 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
⅔ cup soft butter
1¾ cups sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
½ teaspoon almond flavoring
6 egg whites unbeaten
1 cup milk
⅓ cup hot water

Prepare 3 9" cake pans - buttered and floured. Sift together all dry ingredients. Blend butter and sugar. Stir in vanilla and almond flavorings. Beat in egg whites one at a time. Add the dry ingredients alternately with the milk. Blend in the hot water. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake at 375 for 25 minutes. Cool the cakes 10 minutes in the pans and then turn out onto a wire rack. Cool and frost.
