Sweet cream
1 cup sugar
1½ cups flour
2 rounded teaspoons baking powder
Pinch of salt
1½ teaspoons vanilla (or other flavoring)
Lucy's Note: The cream rose to the top of the metal pails they filled at Jensen's farm every day, and was poured off before they used the milk. It was "sweet cream" before it soured.
Sift the dry ingredients together. Beat the egg in a cup and fill the cup with cream. Mix all ingredients together and pour batter into a layer pan or square baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes or until done when tested.
